Splitting Up? Have you made a Will
Back to NewsIf your marriage or relationship has broken down you may have overlooked the need to make a Will. The consequences of you dying without a Will are likely to be different to what you would want.
Remember that if you are married your spouse is your next of kin until you are divorced and would therefore receive most or all of your estate if you die without a Will. To avoid this, you may wish to provide for children or others by making a Will.

The main asset is usually your house. Whether you are married or not, a jointly owned property is normally owned as joint tenants and will automatically pass to the survivor. We can change how the property is owned by separating the two halves and preparing a Will for you, enabling you to leave your half to whoever you wish.

Even if you do not own a house there may be other assets worth leaving in a Will, so whatever the situation, if you relationship has broken down, you would be wise to give urgent consideration as to whom you wish to benefit from your estate. We can advise you on this and prepare your will. For more information please contact Charlotte on 01902 429 051.
